![]() Using a lubricant like WD-40 can make it drastically easier to remove the stuck nut or bolt. Nuts or bolts that are extremely stuck may have to be removed with an impact gun. A simple chisel, or large flathead screwdriver, and hammer will solve the problem most of the time. I really don't want to go this route, if I absolutely had to I would drill them out.Įdit - would heating them help? If I got a soldering iron to apply heat directly to the screw and then tried on what very little purchase is still left (if any) on the screw, would that maybe free them up?Sheer impact and force is one of the most effective ways for removing a seized bolt. They go in about 2/3rds of a centimeter so going this route means popping off the tops. The inelegant solution would be to now pry the plate free, the only gotcha being the little buggers are of course on opposite sides. I have no idea why they are so tight - I was the one who put them on and simply can't imagine having tightened them this much. Gonna give it one more try and then its off to the local hardware store mecca for what will likely be a very humour filled conversation. The palm of my hand is sore from trying to drive the screwtorx in place so hard. These two had me pulling the box towards me while pushing the torx into what little remains of the hex slot with, as a guess, 75-100 pounds of pressure. I reefed (technical term for us construction/building types ) a slightly larger torx looking head that fits into a screw driver handle into two others and managed to get them to pop free (literally, it goes 'ping' when it frees). ![]() I used yet another (4th) hex key and manage to get 2. Latex trick was simply not going to work - the holes are so small that it either won't scrunch in or it its tight on the hex key it pops through as soon as it touches the metal. Oh, and its hot as fuck in the summer (whether thats a plus or minus I leave to you). On the plus side, we have arguably the best airport in the world, low taxes, efficient and relatively non corrupt government and negligible crime. We have major issues with pollution, crowding, high prices, high rents, high home valuations, income inequalities etc. Hehe, for the record, I have never gone on about how great things are here. ![]() If I can get these screws out, I can get the battery out and then just have to replace that - a much simpler thing than lugging the whole thing around. I would much rather do this myself or I am going to have to pay a lot to have it done at the amp repair shop and pray they have some attention to proper detail on a high end finish product (not to mention, lugging around town a 175 pound amp and its box that I don't even think fits in my trunk). I am sure I could find a handyman to do a very rough job but doubt I could find one to do it and not either drill out the screw or damage the finish. That is the biggest challenge really and I only get one crack at it when I try whatever method (well, I can maybe do the latex try first and then maybe the screw remover if I can find one). This job is even simpler - if I can find the right tools. I ended up doing all that replaster/sand/paint no probs. A wall in the new place had a headboard glued to it - net result of removing it was ripping off plaster. Simple things like this I have no problem doing - the difficulty being finding the tool for the job here or a reasonably qualified person. I would definitely rather pay someone to change my oil in the car or move furniture or other not so fun jobs. I am not sure I get the socket wrench plan - once the socket is riding on top of the screw (well, bolt technically?), well, it wouldn't have anything to grip to or slot into so would just spin in place no?Īs per the weed storage, nah, way too inconvenient to be taking apart electrical appliances I would say. The bitch is, the holes are so small 1.5mm basically there just isn't really a lot to get traction into. Not sure where I can find latex gloves around here but a pack of rubbers would likely be the same (except you would want superthick not superthin). The latex glove idea - hmmmm, I could see that working. ![]() the-37736 wouldn't you just totally strip things and then how the heck is a rotating bit going to grip onto nothing to pull out the screw? It just doesn't even seem possible looking at this. I suspect the screw extractor could be tough to find here and knowing my technical ability would likely result in 6 bigger problems. The screw shot in question was just an example one (there are probably 40 and I grabbed one just for visualizing).
